The Guards, or Evzonés, are protecting the old royal palace, which has been the seat of the Greek Parliament since 1935. The Guards' uniform of short kilts and pom-pom shoes is loosely based on the outfits worn by the kleftes, the mountain guerrillas who fought in the War of Independence in the 1820s. you
